<p>The MOS guidelines for topic articles state that chat and roleplay topics must be 300 pages and other topics must be 75 pages to warrant an article. I think for the most part this is fair, but I believe that patrollers and content mods should be allowed to use common sense when determining what a major topic or roleplay for a certain forum is.
</p><p>For instance, a major roleplay in say, the friends forum, may never reach 300 pages, due to relative inactivity in the forum, but still be a central aspect of Friends Roleplay.

the point of common sense is that you don't need votes like these if what you want to do is positively contributing

<p>Yes, but in the past people haven't been able to grasp the concept of common sense, as it is not specifically in the MOS. It's ridiculous, but it's easier to get people to vote on this stuff, so they can't complain later.
