Chat Moderators (AKA ChatMods, Mods, CMs) are users with the ability to kick and ban other users from chat. Please note that moderators can only help you with users you are having problems with in chat; they cannot help with articles, blogs, vandalism, spam, or blocking. If you would like help with articles or editing, please contact an Administrator, Patroller, or Content Moderator for help.

Rules for Moderators

  • All moderators are expected and required to deal with any issues that appear on chat while they are active. Neglecting to deal with an issue too many times can result in loss of rights.
  • All moderators are to recognize that they are not superior to administrators, and are to listen to them as would a normal user.
  • All moderators should recognize that they are not superior to other users, and should never use their rights to make other users feel as if they are inferior.
  • Moderators are not allowed to ban or kick a user for test purposes, or no purpose at all. These experiments should be conducted on a test wiki.
  • Moderators have the right to ban, kick, or warn a user for anything they think may violate the policy. Administrators also have the right to unban the user if they think that the user was not violating the policy. If a moderator repeatedly misinterprets the policy as determined by administrators, the moderator will only be able to ban or kick for things that directly violate the policy.
  • Moderators are not required to give a certain number of warnings or kicks before banning a user for any offense. However, suggestions can be found below.
  • Moderators can use common sense when dealing with disruptive users who are not directly violating the policy.

Banning Suggestions

The following charts lists a suggested number of warnings or kicks for certain offenses before banning the user, as well as a suggested time to ban the user for. Almost all of these are only suggestions. The only exceptions are listed at the bottom. If the user is banned repeatedly for the same thing, the ban times should be longer.

Offence Warns Kicks Ban Time
Spamming 2 1 1 day
Censoring Words 1 1 3 days
Bad Language (not swearing) 1 1 1 week
Refusing to Obey Reasonable Requests From Moderators 2 1 2 weeks
Asking Other Users for Sensitive Personal Info 1 - 1 month
Linking to Inappropriate Places 1 - 1 month
Personal Attack 2 1 2 weeks - 6 months
Posting inappropriate content 1 1 1 week - 1 month (depending on severity)

Exceptions

These are the only exceptions to the suggestions. These are all requirements. It is required that you leave a message on the users talk page if you ban or kick them without warning.

Swearing - - 2 weeks - 2 months (depending on severity)
Giving out Other Users' Sensitive Personal Info - - 2 weeks
