Hey guys. If you don't already know, I am TheShadowAssassin (previously known as Apple123350). I have been on the wiki for over 5 and a half years, and I have extensive experience in regards to the community, considering that I have been here for so long and that I have been a chat moderator for a total of over 3 years. I also have a fair amount of experience with editing, having over 5,080 edits, 406 of which are in mainspace, and 347 are thread edits.

I'm running for Discussion Moderator because I believe that my experience with the community will make me a capable Discussion Moderator, and allow me to further myself as a productive member of the community. I also understand that we have particularly few Discussion Moderators (well, only one, if we're not counting administrators), and would like to fill the void that currently exists. I have also, in the past, expressed desire to eventually reach administrator (albeit a lengthy time from now), and I think that it is necessary for a user to have experience under most, if not all, positions on the wiki, prior to being promoted to administrator. Thinking of it as a baseball game: you can't go straight to home base without first hitting all the other bases. Being promoted to Discussion Moderator is yet another base that is necessary for me to reach before I will even consider running for admin.

As I've said before in previous RfRs, if you choose to oppose or, in some cases, go neutral, I appreciate any and all criticisms and opinions, so please bring your concerns to me here, in your vote or in the comments, and be honest and give me ways in which I can and should improve. Should you support, I thank you in advance.

  • @Keplers, I'm not going to argue, but your first sentence very clearly ignores the very first thing that I said: "I'm running for Discussion Moderator because I believe that my experience with the community will make me a capable Discussion Moderator, and allow me to further myself as a productive member of the community." That is the sole reason as to why I'm running. Also, is it not fair to assume that DM is more or less an actual right, as opposed to a "stepping stone" when I am already a Chat Moderator? DM has very little to offer in terms of added abilities, not including CM, so one could argue that DM is more of an "addition" to CM. Also, I asked you to be honest and outline ways that I can improve in. Simply telling me that I "lack skills" leaves a few questions, yet to be answered by you: What skills? Where do you believe I need improvement? Allow me to restate, I value every opinion and criticism, and I take them seriously; I don't do this for myself, I do it for the community... and part of that is listening to what they have to say, and acting responsibly. Finally, I'm not running for admin, I'm running for Discussion Moderator. But, if I'm going to entertain your notion, let me ask you this. You've stated before that you disagree with the current administration, yet you oppose any attempts to influence change in it (properly, mind you). Why's that? ~Aloy
    • I do not ignore that, but I do believe that it's a weak argument. I've actually had more experience with the community than you, and the only potential way you could further yourself as a DM (which is itself an obsolete position) is to use it to later acquire rights. As you personally say, the DM position truly adds little to no power to you, so why bother to accrue it? In fact, if you truly believed it was no more than an "addition" to CM, why would you not make a community vote to grant CMs the DM power by default?
I'll tell you why: because it adds to your resume to say that you got DM and CM.
In one sentence, you claim that DM is clearly a right in itself, and not a stepping stone. In literally the next sentence, you claim that DM has so little power that it's truly just an addition to the CM right. Which is it?
Lastly: Thank you for "entertaining" my notion. You clearly have no intent to change the way the admins work. You used a completely false claim to get a fresh, non-establishment admin demoted and while refusing to acknowledge the claims of the other side became a lapdog of the administration.     • I did not say that it adds "little to no power", I said it "has little to offer in terms of added abilities". "Power" is not a term that I like to use, and nowhere did I say that it has no added abilities. It does, but very few, in my case. I don't view being promoted to DM as another "stepping stone", so when I made my analogy in my original post, that wasn't my intention.
Now, to address some of your points:
"...why would you not make a community vote to grant CMs the DM power by default?" That's silly. A better solution would be the complete removal of the CM right, given that DM automatically grants CM rights as well anyway. I would be all for this solution.

DM is a right by itself, yes, but in my case, as I am already Chat Moderator, I already have most of the abilities that are granted with DM, therefore making DM more of an "addition" to the rights that I already have. To be completely honest, if a user is already a CM, the idea of going through an entire RfR seems quite trivial to me, and in my opinion, it would be more fair for a CM to simply request, from the admins, the last few abilities that DM has to offer, similar to the relationship between Patrollers and Content Moderators: here.

After the incident, I spoke with Hype in private, and he admitted to me that he did initially have intentions of leaking the admin site; however, he also added that he had changed his mind a few days later, after the screenshots were taken. I was not wrong in my assessment, so please stop pretending that he never had any intentions to leak the admin site. Also, it's not at all fair to state that I "refused to acknowledge the claims of the other side". I did, and I expressed it all in a comment that I left on AP's blog regarding the demotion. I'm not sure if you read it, but if you did, you would have seen that I was taking into consideration the stories from both sides, and as a result, I formulated the compromise that even Hype promoted. "It's quite clear there is no part of you that truly wishes to exert reform." If that is what you see, fine, but that does not make it true, especially considering the fact that both you and Brick, as evidenced above, continue to see things that aren't there, and you're basing you're entire argument off of them. A "power grab", seriously? You have no idea who I am if you think that I would do something like that, and so, as a result, I encourage you to reconsider your vote, or at least find some other reasons.
Finally, I would appreciate it if you could address the following point: "Simply telling me that I "lack skills" leaves a few questions, yet to be answered by you: What skills? Where do you believe I need improvement?" ~Aloy

To be fair I was planing on running before I saw Rome's rfr. Hi I’m Legoanimals750, since we lost a few DMs lately and we also have an influx of new users I feel now would be a good time to run. I’ve been a Chat mod for about 6 months now and know the wiki pretty well by now. I’m also a very active editor and check the Recent Wiki Activity often. So, I can get Cvs or rfr highlighted quickly. So I'll make this reasonably brief. I've been on this wiki for over two years now, and I feel I have shown myself to be a good moderator for chat. Considering we have lost 2 of our 3 discussion moderators in the past 3 months, it is reasonable that we promote another. We are also expected to see a major influx of users coming from the MBs now that they have officially closed. I know most of the users here and how they think, and I believe I have the right potential to make a good DM. Hey everyone! We recently lost one of our discussion moderators, and due to the small size of our staff I believe we should replace him. Because of my lengthy history in this community, I have grown to know those here and how thing opperate. I also believe that he would be capable of using these extra rights appropriately and will do a good job with them. Hello there. So, I'm making this RfR because I've been encouraged to from more than one source. I know I'm a fairly new mod, but I've been around the block, and I feel like I know how things work pretty well. I'm around at all hours, so completing any DM duties and such would be no problem. Not to mention I'm always editing, so it's pretty convenient for me to keep an eye on recent activity. xD Anywho, thanks for your consideration.   • For those merely arguing that there is no need for another DM, I'd like to point out that there are considerable gaps of time when no admins or DMs are keeping an eye on wiki activity, many of them occurrences when Bubbles is online. Monocle Man (wall • contribs) 00:10, October 7, 2016 (UTC)
    • While I agree with you, as I found it personally not to be a reason that I would even argue for, it is possible they still do not feel the need for DMs even then. And, to be honest, rarely does something happen that requires a DM or admin's presence on Wiki Activity/RC. ~Hype (Message me)

Hey, I'm HyperFla- well, you all know me by this point. Derp I'm running for Discussion Moderator because at the moment we only have one, and there have been some instances of problems happening on walls and in blog comments with no one available to handle it. I think I can preform DM tasks alongside my current CM duties, as they aren't much more than I have to do now (things like helping out with votes, moderating threads, etc). Salutations. I am AmazingPythor, an active and experienced chat moderator on this wiki. I am posting an RfR concurrently with Hype due to the lack of active DMs and administrators, and believe that the promotion of both or one of us to discussions moderator would make wiki activity a far more secure place. I have been a chat mod for almost half a year, and the majority of the wiki considers me the best on the team, so I have plenty of experience for the position.
